Chafinity Tea House FAQ

Drinks

What is the difference between House Matcha and a Matcha Latte?

Our House Matcha is prepared in a more traditional style with matcha and water, allowing you to taste the tea more directly — its aroma, texture, umami, and natural finish.

Our Matcha Latte is matcha whisked to order and paired with milk. It is creamier, softer, and more approachable for guests who enjoy a fuller, milk-based drink.

Both are prepared with care. The difference is really in how you want to experience the tea: pure and direct, or soft and creamy.

What is the difference between Traditional Matcha and Matcha Latte?

Traditional Matcha is prepared with matcha and water, allowing you to experience the tea in its purest form. This style highlights the matcha’s natural aroma, texture, umami, sweetness, and finish.

A Matcha Latte is matcha whisked to order and paired with milk. It is creamier, softer, and more comforting, with the milk creating a fuller body and a more approachable flavor.

Both are prepared with care. The difference is in how you want to experience the tea — pure and direct, or soft and creamy.

Is your matcha ceremonial?

We use high-quality Japanese matcha sourced with intention from farmers and artisans in Japan.

Rather than focusing only on the word “ceremonial,” we care more about how the tea is grown, sourced, prepared, and experienced. Our matcha is chosen for quality, flavor, farmer relationship, and how it expresses itself in either traditional tea or latte form.

What is the difference between the matcha options provided?

Our matcha offerings may rotate depending on season, availability, and the farmers we are working with at the time.

In general, we may offer:

House Matcha
Our everyday matcha selection — balanced, smooth, and approachable. This is a beautiful introduction to our tea and works well both traditionally and in lattes.

Premium or Rotating Matcha
A more nuanced matcha offering that may highlight a specific cultivar, region, or harvest. These selections often carry more depth, aroma, umami, or a longer finish.

Farmer-Specific or Limited Matcha
A more limited offering that highlights a specific farmer, cultivar, or seasonal harvest. These teas are often available in smaller quantities and may change throughout the year.

Because tea is seasonal and alive, our matcha offerings may shift over time. We see this as part of the beauty of tea — each harvest carries its own expression of land, care, and season.

How does your matcha taste?

Because our matcha rotates seasonally, the flavor profile may change depending on the cultivar, farmer, harvest, and preparation.

In general, our matcha may carry notes of umami, gentle sweetness, fresh greens, creaminess, minerality, or a soft lingering finish. Some matcha may feel brighter and more refreshing, while others may feel deeper, smoother, and more grounding.

Our team is happy to walk you through the matcha we are currently serving and help you choose the one that best fits the experience you are looking for.

What is hojicha?

Hojicha is a roasted Japanese green tea. Unlike matcha, which is bright and grassy, hojicha has a deeper roasted flavor — warm, nutty, earthy, and comforting.

It is often lower in caffeine than matcha, though it is not completely caffeine-free.

What brewed teas do you offer?

We offer a seasonal selection of brewed teas, which may include oolong, sencha, gyokuro, hojicha, and other rotating teas depending on availability.

Our brewed teas can be enjoyed by the cup or through our teapot service, which allows the tea to be experienced through multiple infusions. Each infusion reveals something different — aroma, texture, sweetness, depth, or a softer finish as the leaves continue to open.

Our brewed tea offerings may change with the season and the teas available to us.

Milks & Sweeteners

What milks do you offer?

We currently offer:

Organic whole milk
Creamy, classic, and rich.

Califia oat milk
A dairy-free oat milk option. Please note that it is not gluten-free.

House nut milk
Our house nut milk is lightly sweetened with dates and made to pair gently with matcha. It has a subtle natural sweetness and a softer texture.

Availability may vary depending on the day.

What sweetener do you use?

We use organic maple syrup and local honey as our sweetener options.

Our house nut milk is lightly sweetened with dates. The sweetness is subtle, and if you are trying our nut milk for the first time, we recommend tasting it as is before adding additional sweetener.

Do you have cold foam?

Not currently. We try to keep the focus on the tea itself and the ingredients that best support it.

Do you have flavored sweeteners?

Our sweetness is more natural and subtle, coming from dates, organic maple syrup, or local honey.

We do not currently offer flavored syrups.

Do you have oat milk?

Yes. We currently offer Califia oat milk as a dairy-free option. Please note that it is not gluten-free.

Do you have strawberry matcha?

Not currently as a regular menu item. Our focus is on traditional Japanese tea, matcha, and seasonal ingredients.

Do you have non-caffeinated drinks?

Most traditional teas naturally contain some caffeine, including matcha, hojicha, sencha, gyokuro, and oolong.

Hojicha is generally lower in caffeine than matcha, but it is not caffeine-free.

For guests who need absolutely no caffeine, we recommend asking our team what caffeine-free options are available that day, if any.

Wagashi & Sweets

What are the ingredients in the wagashi?

Ingredients vary depending on the sweet and the season. Many wagashi are made with traditional ingredients such as rice flour, bean paste, sugar, fruit, or seasonal elements.

Because recipes can rotate, we recommend asking our team about the specific ingredients for the wagashi available that day.

How often do you get wagashi deliveries?

Our wagashi and seasonal sweets are made in small batches and delivered based on availability.

Because they are handcrafted, quantities are limited and may sell out.

Are the wagashi gluten-free or vegan?

Some may be gluten-free or vegan, but it depends on the specific sweet.

Because ingredients can change, we recommend asking our team before purchasing, especially if you have allergies or dietary restrictions.

When is the best time to buy wagashi?

Earlier in the day is best. Our sweets are made in limited quantities and often sell out, especially during busier hours.
